Sambhav Initiative - Parivartan ki Udaan, in association with ProBono India, is conducting a ten-day online National Capacity Building Programme (CBP) on New Labour Codes and Labour Laws from 27th April to 6th May 2026. Sessions will be conducted from 7:00 PM onwards on most days, with one Sunday session scheduled at 11:00 AM.

Capacity Building Programme Structure

The programme runs across ten consecutive days and covers eight distinct subject areas drawn from India's new labour law framework. Each day is dedicated to a specific topic and is led by a practitioner or academic with direct experience in that area. An inauguration and valedictory ceremony bracket the programme.

Topics Covered

1. Code on Wages, 2019 (27th April, 2026)

The opening session addresses the Code on Wages, 2019: One of the four consolidated labour codes, which brings together provisions on minimum wages, payment of wages, payment of bonus, and equal remuneration under a single statute.

2. Industrial Relations Code, 2020 (28th April, 2026)

This session covers the Industrial Relations Code, which consolidates laws relating to trade unions, conditions of employment in industrial establishments, and settlement of industrial disputes.

3. Mandatory Labour Law Compliance for Companies (29th April, 2026)

Rather than focusing on a single code, this session takes a compliance-oriented approach, examining the obligations companies face under labour law in practice, with a perspective drawn from large-scale corporate environments.

4. Code on Social Security, 2020 (30th April, 2026)

The Code on Social Security, 2020 consolidates several existing laws covering provident fund, employee state insurance, gratuity, maternity benefit, and related provisions. This session examines its scope and implications.

5. Employment Disputes and Disciplinary Proceedings (1st May, 2026)

This session is structured around practical courtroom and workplace concerns:

  • Drafting and interpreting appointment letters, service rules, and contractual clauses
  • Distinguishing between retrenchment, termination, and dismissal
  • Conducting domestic enquiries, from initiation to report
  • Legal safeguards against arbitrary disciplinary action

6. Landmark Judgments on Labour and Employment Laws (2nd May)

A case-law focused session reviewing significant judicial decisions that have shaped the interpretation and application of labour and employment statutes in India.

7. Career Opportunities in Labour and Employment Law (3rd May, Sunday, 11:00 AM)

This session shifts to a professional development perspective, covering three primary career tracks: litigation practice before labour courts and tribunals, advisory work, and in-house counsel roles within organisations.

8. Recovery of Money Due from Employer (4th May)

A procedurally detailed session covering:

  • Legal remedies available to workers under labour law
  • Forum and authority selection for recovery claims
  • Limitation periods, computation of dues, and evidentiary requirements
  • Execution and enforcement of awards and recovery certificates

9. Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 (5th May)

The Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (OSH) Code, 2020 consolidates thirteen existing laws. This session examines its provisions and compliance requirements.

10. Industrial Disputes (6th May)

The final substantive session addresses industrial dispute resolution, including procedures, forums, and the legal framework governing collective and individual disputes.
