CCI Approves Acquisition of Three Cricket Franchises by Westview Cricket and Poonawalla Sports

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the acquisition of three professional cricket franchises: Rajasthan Royals in India, Paarl Royals in South Africa and Barbados Royals in Barbados, by Westview Cricket Limited and Poonawalla Sports and Fitness Private Limited. 

The proposed combination involves the acquisition of the three franchises by the two entities. 

Entities Involved in the Acquisition 

Westview Cricket Limited is a company registered in the United Kingdom. 

Poonawalla Sports and Fitness Private Limited is a private limited company incorporated in India and is wholly owned by Mr. Adar Cyrus Poonawalla. 

Holding Company and Franchise Ownership 

EM Sporting Holdings Limited (EMSH), a private company limited by shares incorporated and registered in Mauritius, is the holding company for Royal Multisport Private Limited (RMPL), Paarl Royals Ltd. and Barbados Royals Ltd. 

RMPL owns and operates the Rajasthan Royals franchise, which participates in the Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 cricket tournament organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). 

The CCI's approval relates to the proposed acquisition of the three professional cricket franchises by Westview Cricket Limited and Poonawalla Sports and Fitness Private Limited.
