Central Government Designates Competent Authority for Murarai-Barharwa 3rd Line Railway Project

The Ministry of Railways, Eastern Railway (Construction Department), issued Notification S.O. 5744(E) on December 11, 2025, which was subsequently published in the Official Gazette. This instrument designates a Competent Authority for a specific railway infrastructure project. Exercising powers conferred by clause (7A) of Section 2 of the Railways Act, 1989, as amended by the Railways (Amendment) Act, 2008, the Central Government authorized the Additional District Magistrate (Land Acquisition) of Birbhum district, West Bengal, to perform the functions of the Competent Authority. This authorization specifically pertains to the Murarai-Barharwa 3rd Line, identified as a Special Railway Project, for the acquisition of land required in the Birbhum District of West Bengal. The notification came into force with effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
