Central Government Designates Competent Authority for West Bengal Railway Project

The Ministry of Railways, through its South Eastern Railway (Construction Organization), issued a Notification, S.O. 5606(E), on December 4, 2025, which was subsequently published in the Gazette of India on December 5, 2025. This notification serves as a formal instrument to authorize a specific officer to act as the competent authority for a special railway project. The Central Government, exercising powers granted under clause (7A) of section 2 of the Railways Act, 1989 (Act 24 of 1989), designated the Additional District Magistrate (L.A), Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal, to perform the functions of the competent authority. This authorization specifically pertains to the Kalaikunda-Nimpura West Outer-Gokulpur connectivity project, which avoids the Nimpura Reception Yard and spans 12.33 kilometers in West Bengal. The designated officer is tasked with the comprehensive responsibilities of execution, maintenance, management, and operation of this crucial railway infrastructure project. The notification came into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette.
