Collegium Recommends Elevation and Transfer of Judges Across Six High Courts

The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting held on 6th August, 2026, issued two separate statements recommending the elevation of four High Court judges as Chief Justices and the transfer of two High Court judges to other High Courts. 

Elevation as Chief Justices 

In the first statement, the Collegium recommended the elevation of the following judges as Chief Justices of the High Courts named against their names: 

1. Justice V. Kameswar Rao, presently a Judge of the Delhi High Court, has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
2. Justice Ravindra V. Ghuge, presently a Judge of the Bombay High Court, has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
3. Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi, presently a Judge of the Allahabad High Court, has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
4. Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, presently a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court (parent High Court: Allahabad), has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. 

Transfer of Judges 

In the second statement, the Collegium recommended the transfer of the following judges of the Orissa High Court: 

1. Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak (parent High Court: Gauhati), presently a Judge of the Orissa High Court, has been recommended for transfer to the Gujarat High Court.
2. Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra, presently a Judge of the Orissa High Court, has been recommended for transfer to the Chhattisgarh High Court.
