About the Book

Fundamentals of Indian Contract Law offers an accessible yet comprehensive account of the law of contract in India, as described by the publishers. Drawing on the authors' combined litigation and arbitration experience, the book examines the extensive body of Indian judicial precedent on law of contracts with the aim of identifying the underlying structural principles that run through it.  

Fundamentals of Indian Contract Law covers formation of contracts, vitiating factors, illegality, interpretation, performance, discharge, and remedies for breach, and is pitched as a resource for both students and practitioners navigating the field. 

About the Authors

Thomas Sebastian is a dual-qualified barrister based at Monckton Chambers, London. He holds a BA LLB (Hons) from the National Law School of India University, along with BCL and MPhil degrees from the University of Oxford. His practice area surrounds commercial and regulatory disputes, focused upon cross-border matters connected to India. 

Aman Ahluwalia is an advocate based in New Delhi. He holds a BA LLB (Hons) from the National Law School of India University, a BCL from the University of Oxford, and an LLM from Harvard University. His practice combines litigation and arbitration work, and he has previously been appointed amicus curiae to assist the Supreme Court of India in certain matters. 

Launch and Panel Discussion

The launch of Fundamentals of Indian Contract Law event is being held on 27th July, 2026 at the Multipurpose Hall, India International Centre, Max Mueller Marg, New Delhi, beginning at 6:45 p.m., preceded by high tea from 6:15 p.m. The book launch will open with remarks by Dr. Abhishek Singhvi, Senior Advocate and Member of Parliament. This will be followed by a panel discussion reflecting on the challenges facing private law scholarship and adjudication in India, moderated by Gopal Sankaranarayanan, Senior Advocate. The panel will feature:
