Justice Meenakshi M. Rai appointed Chief Justice of Patna HC

The President of India has appointed Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. The announcement was made by the Minister of Law and Justice, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal vide his official X Handle.
Earlier, the Supreme Court Collegium on 22nd May, 2026 recommended the appointment of Justice Meenakshi M. Rai as the next Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Patna.
About Justice Meenakshi M. Rai
Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai was serving as a Judge of the Sikkim High Court and was proposed to take over as Patna High Court Chief Justice following the vacancy caused by the retirement of incumbent Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo.
Justice Meenakshi M. Rai is among the senior judicial figures from the northeastern region. She was elevated from subordinate judiciary as Judge of the Sikkim High Court on 15th April, 2015. She was the first woman from Sikkim to be elevated to the post. Justice Meenakshi M. Rai has served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court. Her elevation as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court marks a significant administrative responsibility in one of the prominent constitutional courts.
