SC Collegium recommends Justice Sujoy Paul as Calcutta HC Chief Justice
The Supreme Court Collegium recently recommended Justice Sujoy Paul for appointment as the Chief Justice of Calcutta HC. The official recommendation came from the Apex Court through its meeting held on 09th January, 2026.
Justice Paul is already serving as the acting Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court where he assumed charge as a Calcutta HC Judge on 18th July, 2025. He was transferred here from Telangana High Court, with Madhya Pradesh being his parent High Court.
About Justice Sujoy Paul
Born on 21st June, 1964, Justice Paul completed his schooling from Jabalpur’s Pandit L.S. Jha Model Higher Secondary School. He further completed his Graduation and Post Graduation to be enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh in 1990. His area of practice surrounded Civil, Constitutional, Industrial and Service and other branches of Law in various Courts and Tribunals.
On 27th May, 2011, he was elevated to the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur and became a permanent judge on 14th April, 2014.
