Major Law Entrance Exams in India After Class 12

Copy LinkShareSave

The legal profession in India has evolved significantly over the past few decades. The introduction of five-year integrated law programmes has enabled students to pursue legal education immediately after completing Class XII. In other words, they do not necessarily need to graduate first to pursue a 3-year LLB course.

Admissions to 5-year integrated programmes are primarily conducted through national, state-level, and university-specific law entrance examinations. For students aspiring to join National Law Universities (NLUs), premier private law schools, or reputed state institutions, understanding these entrance examinations is the first step towards a successful legal career.

This article provides an overview of the major law entrance examinations in India after class 12. Explore this for admission to five-year integrated law courses, their eligibility criteria, applicability, and who should consider appearing for them.

  • CLAT for National Law Universities.
  • AILET for NLU Delhi.
  • SLAT for Symbiosis Law Schools.
  • MH CET Law for Maharashtra institutions.
  • University-specific tests where applicable.

Appearing for multiple examinations provides a wider range of choices and reduces dependence on a single result.
