Ministry of Environment Notifies Recruitment Rules for Zoological Survey of India Taxidermist Grade III Post

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change recently issued a notification establishing new recruitment rules for the post of Taxidermist Grade III within the Zoological Survey of India. These regulations, titled the Zoological Survey of India (Taxidermist Grade III) Recruitment Rules, 2025, were published in the Official Gazette as G.S.R. 161(E) on March 7, 2025, and came into force on the date of their publication. For direct recruits, the age limit is set between 18 and 27 years, with relaxations for government servants up to 40 years, as per Central Government instructions. The crucial date for age determination will be as advertised by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), which is designated as the recruitment agency. Essential educational qualifications require candidates to have passed the 12th Class with Biology as a subject, coupled with either three years of practical experience in taxidermy from a recognized organization or a Diploma in Museology from a recognized university or institute. The rules allow for the relaxation of qualifications by the SSC for otherwise well-qualified candidates, and experience requirements can be relaxed for Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes if a sufficient number of candidates with requisite experience are not available. A two-year probation period is mandated for appointees.

The rules also include a disqualification clause for individuals involved in bigamous marriages (a person who has entered into or contracted a marriage with a person having a spouse living, or who, having a spouse living, has entered into or contracted a marriage with any person), though the Central Government retains the power to grant exemptions under specific conditions. A Departmental Confirmation Committee, comprising the Director of the Zoological Survey of India as Chairman, and the Head of Office, Botanical Survey of India, and Head of Office, Zoological Survey of India, as members, is established for considering confirmation of appointees. The Union Public Service Commission is not required to be consulted for this recruitment process. Furthermore, provisions exist for filling vacancies on a deputation basis for durations of one year or more, from eligible Central Government officers holding analogous posts or with five years of regular service in Level-4 positions, provided they meet the prescribed qualifications.

Importantly, a savings clause explicitly states that the rules do not affect existing provisions for reservation, age-limit relaxation, and other concessions extended to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, ex-servicemen, and other special categories, in accordance with standing Central Government orders. This ensures continuity of affirmative action policies while modernizing recruitment procedures.
