The National Law School of India University, in collaboration with the University of Zurich Law School, is scheduled to host an in-person academic workshop on the theme of Global Justice on 6th – 7th May, 2026, at its campus in Bengaluru.
The workshop is designed as a closed, intensive academic engagement involving a select group of doctoral candidates, post-doctoral researchers, and early-career scholars.
About the Workshop on Global Justice
The workshop adopts a discussion-oriented format, with participation limited to approximately 12–15 scholars drawn from both collaborating institutions. Selected participants shall present substantially developed draft papers and engage on the work of their peers.
The format mandates continuous participation across the two-day schedule, with emphasis on detailed review, critique, and scholarly exchange. Faculty members from both institutions will contribute as commentators and respondents.
Thematic Focus: Global Justice and the Rule of Law
The central theme of Global Justice is interpreted broadly, encompassing normative, institutional, and interdisciplinary dimensions of justice beyond the nation-state. The workshop shall engage with a range of issues, including the following:
- International legal frameworks and global governance
- Inequality and power asymmetries
- Human rights and migration
- Climate justice and environmental concerns
- Post-colonial and critical perspectives
A principal focus of the discussions will be the concept of the rule of law as a foundational element of global justice. The workshop seeks to examine its varied interpretations across legal systems and its contested nature in contemporary international discourse.
Academic Scope and Interdisciplinary Engagement
Although anchored in international law, the workshop extends to interdisciplinary approaches, incorporating perspectives from political theory, economics, sociology, history, and environmental studies. Submissions engaging with the broader theme of global justice, both within and beyond legal frameworks, form part of the academic discourse.
While the application process has concluded, the workshop represents a significant academic exercise in fostering rigorous discourse on global justice. Its limited participation model and emphasis on in-depth engagement distinguish it as a notable event within contemporary legal scholarship.
