No Plans to Change Aadhaar Card Format: MeitY Clarifies

The Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) through a Press Release has addressed circulating claims regarding changes to the Aadhaar Card format. It confirmed that there were no plans to change the current format of information contained in Aadhaar Card. Several news portals shared reports that Aadhaar may soon be reduced to only a photograph and a QR code, which MeitY tagged as incorrect information.
Misleading Reports on New Aadhaar Card Look
MeitY Press Release noted that “intermittent news reports and social media posts” have been spreading this claim, creating confusion among the public. It explicitly stated that “there is no plan for any such changes” to Aadhaar’s current format.

Reliance on Official Sources
The official statement urged people to disregard such claims and rely only on verified information. It advised the public to refer to official communications from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), including its social media channels and press releases issued through PIB.
Media Caution
The MeitY Press Release also called upon media organizations not to amplify unverified or misleading information related to Aadhaar Card. It emphasized the need for responsible reporting to prevent further confusion.
