Sikkim Enacts Law for Establishment of Fusion University

The Sikkim Legislative Assembly recently passed the Fusion University Sikkim Act, 2025 (Act No. 15 of 2025), which received the Governor's assent on June 13, 2025, and was subsequently published in the Official Gazette on July 17, 2025. This legislation provides for the establishment and incorporation of Fusion University as a self-financed Private University in the State of Sikkim, specifically located at Chumbung, Soreng District. Enforcement mechanisms are robust, with the State Government retaining powers to inspect, issue directions, and even de-recognize the University in cases of non-compliance, financial mismanagement, or administrative failure. Provisions for the winding up and dissolution of the University are also detailed, ensuring that assets and liabilities are managed responsibly, with assets potentially vesting in the State Government under certain conditions. The Act also outlines a transparent fee structure approval process and mandates timely declaration of examination results.
