Centre Reappoints Tushar Mehta as Solicitor General; Fresh Terms for Supreme Court Law Officers

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the re-appointment of Shri Tushar Mehta as Solicitor General for India (SGI) in the Supreme Court of India, with effect from 1 July 2026, for a further term of three years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The approval was communicated through an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on 20 June 2026.

Re-appointments at the Supreme Court

Along with the Solicitor General, the ACC also approved the re-appointment of five Additional Solicitor Generals for India (ASGIs) in the Supreme Court of India for a further term of three years each, effective from the dates mentioned against their names:

All re-appointments are subject to the condition that they remain in force until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Re-appointment at the Delhi High Court

The ACC also approved the re-appointment of Shri Chetan Sharma as ASGI for the High Court of Delhi, for a further term of six months with effect from 1 July 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Earlier Appointments at the Supreme Court

In a separate order dated 22 December 2025, the ACC had approved the fresh appointment of two Senior Advocates as ASGIs in the Supreme Court of India, each for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge of office, or until further orders, whichever is earlier:

• Shri Davinder Pal Singh, Senior Advocate

• Shri Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, Senior Advocate

• Shri Anil Kaushik, Senior Advocate
